Employers

Health Services

CAREERS has two programs for employers interested in hiring a health services student intern.

Health Care Aide (HCA) Program

This pilot program operates in select areas of Alberta, connecting health care employers with students interested in becoming HCAs. Students complete a combination of post-secondary theory courses at school and internship time with you, eventually graduating as a certified HCA. Internships last 4-8 weeks and take place each summer for three years.

In many cases, students continue work as an HCA after graduation, introducing younger employees to health organizations.

Health Services Youth Initiative

This program operates all across Alberta linking health services employers to students interested in the health sector. Students complete a six-week internship, with the option for you to extend their placement to eight weeks.

In both programs, CAREERS pre-screens students based on their grades, attendance, and attitude. We suggest possible matches, and you interview the students to choose the best fit for your organization.
