The Oil and Gas Production Field Operator (PFO) Program aims primarily to prepare future certified Production Field Operators, increase skill level for entry positions, enhance youth employability skills, and increase awareness of post-secondary options.
The PFO Program was created to introduce high school students to the oil and gas industry through a unique mix of educational training and hands-on learning. Starting in grade 10, students can earn high school credits and gain field experience through four- to five-week paid internships with local employers.
The PFO Program runs in Wabasca and in south eastern Alberta. In Wabasca, students can earn their high school diploma as well as certification from SAIT through Northern Lakes College. In south eastern Alberta, students attend the EnCana Energy Camp at SAIT Polytechnic.
