Employing a Health Services Intern

The Health Services Youth Initiative Program operates in response to a desperate call for more health services workers in Alberta. Over the summer months, all nine Regional Health Authorities along with several private facilities provide paid, six-week summer internships for high school students in fields of need from acute care to diagnostic imaging.

If your organization provides health services for the public, you are eligible to employ a health services student intern. (Both publicly and privately run facilities are eligible.)

How to get involved

RECRUITMENT

Complete a Health Internship Placement Form and submit it to your organization’s Human Resources Department, or directly to CAREERS: The Next Generation.CAREERS will then post the positions on our website. High school students in your area will begin applying for positions that interest them.

PRE-SCREENING

Each school’s Work Experience Coordinator will pre-screen all applicants to ensure students are in good standing and meet the minimum eligibility requirements.Applications are sent from the school to CAREERS; where we screen all applicants.

SELECTION

Top candidates’ applications are delivered to your organization’s manager or director for review. You will then schedule interviews.Once you have selected your Health Services Intern, you notify a CAREERS field team member, so we can create a commencement package for the student.
Students’ first work week takes place the first week of July. The internships run for six weeks.

Processes may vary. Please contact CAREERS: The Next Generation at 1 (888) 757-7172 if you have any questions.
